Return to Kauai - Day Two

Spending Saturday in So. Cal. was fun, but it was just a pit stop on the way to paradise and we were anxious to get going. On Sunday we woke up and got ready to mosey on out. Russ and I grabbed a rental car big enough for the 4 of us plus luggage and and short time later we were back up in LA dropping it off at the airport.

With the exception of front row seats to a 5 year olds breakfast coming back up, the airport experience was pretty uneventful. We got there with just enough time to clear security theater, find our gate and locate our seats on the plane.

The plane was our home for 5 and a half long and very excruciating hours. Lunch was served, but at the steep price of $10 for what ended up being a barely edible salad. I'm telling you, I've flown on some awful flights before but United is going out of there way to find new lows in air travel -- I digress.

We landed in Honolulu just in time to witness the sunset as we ate our first Island meal in between gate 6 and 7. This ended up being a mistake on many levels, with Debbie being hit the hardest (she ended up spending a rough night close to the bathroom).

When our 2 hour layover was up, we boarded the plane for the best leg of the trip... An 18 minute flight from Honolulu to Kauai. We were all glad to finally be there and it didn't take us long to grab a cabby and check into our First hotel - the Kauai Inn.

We made the most of the evening talking by the pool until it became too hard to keep our eyes open and we retired for the night.

Return to Kauai - Day One

Wow! what and early morning we had today. Jeremy (our cat whisperer) was gracious enough to pick us up at 4 am so that we could make our 6 am flight out to LAX. In true irony, it was once again snowing on the ride up to the airport (we're sorry Jeremy, I swear we don't plan it).

Getting on the plane was an event as it was a smaller commuter jet with absolutely no room in the overhead compartments, so even though Desiree and I took great pains to only pack carry on items, we were still forced to relinquish them at the gate (we still didn't have the pay the bag check fees luckily). It was only an hour and a half flight, so I really couldn't tell you any more about it.

Finding our bags on the other side and making our way out curbside only took a few minutes. Before no time, My parents arrived and we were on our way to Southern California to meet up with my brother, sister and their families for some well deserved bagels.

The conversation revolved around catching up on each other's lives, stopping only once to move the venue back to my brother's house. It was great to see all the kids and hang out for a while, but they had a mouse, a duck and a few princesses to see, so we wrapped things up around noon so the kids could enjoy Disneyland.

Desiree and I then spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out at the Spectrum and then with Russ and Debbie as we made the final preparations for our trip.

Back to life

Well, once again our vacation flew by in the blink of 4 happy eyes. We're back to work today, enjoying the rigmarole of every day life. I'm sure by my expression you can see just how happy we are about it. The past 2 days were awful as the they normally are when you're fighting sleep, time zone changes and faulty planes but the trip itself was a blast. I hope to get pictures uploaded soon, but until then my smiling happy face with have to suffice.

Warmer Days are a coming

Utah winters have a beauty unlike any other I've experienced elsewhere in the world. With that said however, there comes a time where you just want some kind of reprieve. Luckily Desiree and I have planned our escape and between you, me and the www we couldn't be more excited for it. We'll be returning to a familiar spot, but taking some friends with us so the adventure is sure to have some new twists and turns.

Stay tuned as the fun unfolds...

"It's safe to buy pink"

Those were the words spoken to us yesterday by the lady giving us our ultrasound. We couldn't be more excited for her arrival just over 5 months from now.

Now, in the words of my 3 year old self... "It's a greil, greil! griel! griel!"

200th Post on T&D!

Nothing really new to report here today, other then this is our 200th post since starting this blog up back in 2004. It's been a fun ride sharing our experiences with you and we hope to continue on in the same fashion. Desiree has definitely made this blog worth reading again, so I'd like to express my thanks to her.

2009 is here and we've got some things planned which should shake up our little piece of the blog-o-sphere, so keep checking back and enjoy the ride!
