Return to Kauai - Day Two
Spending Saturday in So. Cal. was fun, but it was just a pit stop on the way to paradise and we were anxious to get going. On Sunday we woke up and got ready to mosey on out. Russ and I grabbed a rental car big enough for the 4 of us plus luggage and and short time later we were back up in LA dropping it off at the airport.
With the exception of front row seats to a 5 year olds breakfast coming back up, the airport experience was pretty uneventful. We got there with just enough time to clear security theater, find our gate and locate our seats on the plane.
The plane was our home for 5 and a half long and very excruciating hours. Lunch was served, but at the steep price of $10 for what ended up being a barely edible salad. I'm telling you, I've flown on some awful flights before but United is going out of there way to find new lows in air travel -- I digress.
We landed in Honolulu just in time to witness the sunset as we ate our first Island meal in between gate 6 and 7. This ended up being a mistake on many levels, with Debbie being hit the hardest (she ended up spending a rough night close to the bathroom).
When our 2 hour layover was up, we boarded the plane for the best leg of the trip... An 18 minute flight from Honolulu to Kauai. We were all glad to finally be there and it didn't take us long to grab a cabby and check into our First hotel - the Kauai Inn.
We made the most of the evening talking by the pool until it became too hard to keep our eyes open and we retired for the night.
